Lemuel LILLY, 1896-1986

     Well known Beecher City resident Lemuel LILLY died Sunday at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Mr. LILLY was born in Fayette County, Ill. April 3, 1896 to Henry and Rachel Ellen SCULLY LILLY of Beecher City. He expired at the age of

ninety years, eight months and four days.

      Mr. LILLY was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps in Springfield, Ill. June 10, 1917 and served until Sept. 26, 1919. He was wounded July

19, 1918 while serving as corporal of the 95 Co., 6th Regt. In France. For this, he received the Purple Heart on Oct 22, 1918 he received a citation

from Marshall Petain of the French Government. Mr. LILLY received an honorable discharge at Marine Barracks, Washington D.C. Sept 26,

1919. He was a charter member of the Okaw Valley Muzzle Loading Club and a member of the American Legion Post No. 402 of St. Elmo and

V.F.W.  Post No. 7676 of Altamont.

     He married Wreatha Goldie BARTIMUS of Beecher City, IL Oct. 4, 1919. She survives. To this union was born six children, sons, Duane,

JR.; daughters Mrs. Earl (Lois) HIMES, Bernice WRIGHT, Mary LEWIS,  Mrs. Albert (Betty) KRUZAN. There are 17 grandchildren and several

great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Robert, Spurgeon  and sister. Josephine LONG. Four brothers and four sisters preceded him

in death.

     Funeral services were at 1p.m. Wednesday in the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Beecher City. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery near

Beecher City.
